WELCOME TO COE’S 39TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

On behalf of the Conference Committee, we welcome you to COE’s 39th Annual Conference.  While we wish that we could welcome you in person in San Antonio, Texas, we welcome you to our virtual conference.  We are living in unprecedented times as we strive to create a “new normal” through the COVID-19 pandemic.  We will be offering some amazing opportunities not only to learn about supporting our students in this “new normal” but to engage and network with other individuals in the college access and success profession.

A MESSAGE FROM THE 2019-2020 COE BOARD CHAIR

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), I’d like to welcome you all to the 39th Annual COE Conference.

This year’s conference theme, “Reimagining College Opportunity,” is very fitting given our current circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve had to collectively pivot to meet the needs of our students and staff and move to an entirely remote system for the better part of the year. But, as a community, you have successfully responded to these needs and in the process are reimagining opportunity for us all.

As such, the conference committee has taken great efforts to ensure that this year’s conference not only provides you with the same level of outstanding professional development that you’d get from an in-person experience, but also to take time to rejuvenate and rest in knowing the work you do is important and appreciated. We have many opportunities for “hands-on” learning from experts in the field and are using our collective minds to bring you the very best virtual experience possible. Many thanks to our conference co-chairs, Andrew Gonzalez and Stephanie Givens, for leading us in this effort.

It has indeed been an honor to serve as the Chair of the COE Board this year. I thank you all for your kindness and generosity as I visited each of your regions (unfortunately not all, due to the pandemic). I welcome your online presence at this year’s conference and I look forward to engaging with you throughout the event.

Thank you again, and welcome to the first-ever virtual conference for this organization

Sincerely,

2019-2020 Board Chair

Kyle K. Ethelbah, MPH
